Degree Thesis

    Generalities

    The final examination consists of the discussion of a thesis written in an original manner by the student under the guidance of one or more tutors. The thesis, which may be an in-depth study of a topic covered during the internship, may also be written in English. The content of the thesis will be agreed with the supervisor.

    Thesis supervisor

    In the development of the thesis, the student is guided by a supervisor. The choice of supervisor is based not only on interest in the subject of the thesis, but also on a relationship of esteem and trust that will allow the work to be carried out in the best possible way. Normally, the student identifies a lecturer through informal interviews who is willing to entrust him/her with the thesis work. Alternatively, the student may ask the Chair of the Doctoral Programme to identify a supervisor. The supervisor is usually a lecturer or researcher from the programme, but external lecturers are also qualified to undertake this role.

    Degree examination booking

    The candidate submits the application to the Student secretariat to book the degree examination; the application must be countersigned by the supervisor.

    Summary Transmission

    The candidate, having read the composition of the examination board, must send the members of the examination board, within 7 days of the date of the examination, a summary of the thesis, prepared according to the template in the download area, exclusively in a single file in pdf format.

    Thesis Presentation

    At least one copy of the thesis, written according to the guidelines in the download area, must be available for assessment by the Commission during the final session. At the final session, the candidate must present his/her work to the Commission, using a slide show (e.g. PowerPoint), for 12 minutes. A possible layout of the thesis presentation is available in the download area. At the end of the presentation, the Commission may ask questions for clarification or further study.

    Final grade assignment and communication

    The Graduation Commission will determine the final grade, taking into account:

    1. the average of the marks obtained in the subjects included in the student's curriculum, weighted by the number of ECTS allocated to each subject;
    2. the quality of the thesis and the effectiveness of its presentation;
    3. other considerations relating to the student's curriculum
